Frequently Asked Questions

Will my power mobility equipment be covered by my insurance provider?

Medicare, Medicaid, and most private insurance companies provide coverage for durable medical equipment including power mobility equipment. If you are not sure whether or not your insurance provides such coverage, we will contact your insurance company for you and find out.

How much of the cost of my power mobility equipment will be covered by insurance?

Most insurance companies will pay between 50% and 80% of a set allowable price for durable medical equipment such as motorized wheelchairs. The amount that your insurance company pays will depend in part on the type of equipment you need and the state in which you live.

Who will pay for the amount that my insurance does not cover?

Most secondary insurance providers will pay for what your primary insurance does not pay. If you don't have secondary insurance, or the cost would create a financial hardship, special consideration can be made.

How do I find out if I qualify?

Most insurance providers require your doctor to fill out a form that is called a Certificate of Medical Necessity. This form has several questions which assess your mobility. If he feels that you need power mobility equipment, he will fill out this form, and send it back to Freedom Home Medical with a written prescription and office visit notes which support your need for the equipment. Upon receiving these forms, Freedom Home Medical will submit them to your insurance company to find out if you qualify for coverage.

How do I submit a claim to my insurance provider for the equipment?

As an authorized provider, Freedom Home Medical will take care of all the paperwork for you. Once we have received your doctor's approval, we will send the necessary documentation to your insurance company for approval.

How do I choose which products will be the best for me?

Our equipment specialists are trained to help you determine which equipment will be best for your height, weight, and intended use.
